What is Dual Credit? According to The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Dual Credit is a process by which a high school junior or senior enrolls in a college course and receives simultaneous academic credit for the course from both the college and the high school. While dual credit courses are often taught on the secondary school campus to high school students only, a high school student can also take a course on the college campus and receive both high school and college credit.

Who should take Dual Credit? Students… Students highly motivated and willing to work hard Students who do NOT procrastinate Students determined to graduate with college credits Students okay with Pre-AP weighted English Students who did not make a 3, 4, or 5 on junior year AP English exam (talk to your HS counselor)

How to Enroll? 1)Juniors and Seniors with a 80 or higher GPA are eligible to participate in dual credit courses. 2)The High School Counseling Office will provide official student transcripts to TCC. 3)TCC Connect will come to the High School March 22 nd and 23 rd to help students complete the online application and administer the Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA).

How to Enroll? 4)Students will have an opportunity to take the TSI-A at Birdville HS (if the student is not exempt from testing). The TSI Assessment is the approved placement test used by educational institutions to assist in determining if a student is prepared for a college-level courses and to aid institutions in making course placement decisions. Students will take the Reading, Writing, and Math portions of the TSI-A.

How to Enroll? 5)Immediately following the TSI-A, students will receive results to share with the Dual Credit Counselor. All re-tests will take place at the TCC NE Campus Testing Center. 6)Students exempt from the TSI-A based on ACT/SAT test scores must submit an official copy of their scores to the TCC NE Campus Registrar’s Office.

The TCC Connect office will register all students in their course section(s) for dual credit classes at their high school.

How to Enroll? 8)The registration process is complete when students make a tuition payment through their TCC WebAdvisor account online or in person at any TCC Business Services Office. Tuition payment plans are available, and students should contact Business Services for more information after they have been registered for courses.

Dual Credit Textbooks After the student has received a Dual Credit schedule from their high school counselor, they can purchase their textbook(s) at any TCCD Campus Follett Bookstore or online at Students may also purchase their textbooks from any provider, as long as the ISBN matches the text required for their course. Students are expected to have their textbooks on the first day of class.

How to be Successful… High School vs. College College Classes: Student Responsibility (accountability). You must communicate with your professor. Attendance will be taken daily. Involvement in extracurricular activities does not excuse the student from course responsibilities. Syllabus outlines the course requirements and expectations of the instructor.
