THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF JESUS Jesus of Nazareth: Born between 6 and 4 B.C. in Bethlehem As a young man, he took up the trade of carpentry. At the age of 30 he took up public ministry Three years of work until his death

THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF JESUS A Growing Movement: Main source of information about Jesus comes from the Bible Apostles – Jesus’s disciples or pupils were have thought to write the “Gospels” that discuss Jesus.

THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF JESUS Jesus’s Death: His growing popularity concerned both Roman and Jewish leaders. Jewish leaders denied that Jesus was the Messiah. Roman governor Pontius Pilate accused Jesus of defying the authority of Rome He was sentence to death.

CHRISTIANITY SPREADS THROUGH THE EMPIRE Strengthened by their conviction that he had rose from the dead, followers of Jesus continued to spread his ideas.

CHRISTIANITY SPREADS THROUGH THE EMPIRE Paul’s Mission: The apostle Paul had an enormous influence on Christianity’s development. Ideas and Travel were safe in the empire, so one could move about the empire preaching the ideas. He pushed that Christianity welcomed all people not just Jews.

CHRISTIANITY SPREADS THROUGH THE EMPIRE Jewish Rebellion: Around 66 AD a band of Jews rebelled against Rome. 70 AD, the Romans stormed Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple complex, leaving only the western wall. 500,000 Jews were killed in the raid. Jews tried to rebel again in 132 AD, another 500,000 Jews will be killed. Most Jews were driven from their homeland in exile at this point, know as Diaspora.
