What is Skype? It is a downloadable software from the internet which the primary use is for video conferencing. Making calls from PC to PC, PC to mobile phone and PC to landline. It’s additional feature is instant messaging and file sharing Advantages Faster and clearer video conferencing Good voice quality and easy to use Free from spyware and malware Disadvantages Doesn’t work well with slow internet connection Call to mobile and landline phones are not free

Google forms

What is Google Forms? It is a feature of Google mail or Gmail’s spreadsheets. These forms like any other forms found over the internet are used for polls and surveys. While web polling services are everywhere you can create online polls and surveys for free, the manipulation of data and collaboration of people online is a feature of Google that stands out. To have access to this online software one must be a member or Google Mail or Gmail. Since it is integrated into Google Mail, data saving is not limited to megabyte but measured in gigabyte. Retrieval of data is also easy.

Advantages Usage and access have no limits Navigation is clean It includes charts and running summaries. Spreadsheets can be manipulated like MS excel, however, it allows optimal sharing via internet connection. It has no costs, as long as you’re a member of Gmail, you can use this. Export of data is not needed as long as it is shared to the right individuals or list of people. Autosave or saving to the drafts is automatic. It allows specificity to a group of people. It is connected to the spreadsheets of Google, meaning you can attach it there. Allow true collaborators to manipulate the data and correct and make responses.

Disadvantages It does not allow copying of form from one spreadsheet to another. It is not allowed for public view, only for specified people, unless the link is given or shared interpersonally through . Setup is done manually since no pre-set visualization is featured. Templates cannot be customized. Does not allow easy publish to the web for public response

Academic earth

What is Academic Earth? A website where in videos of lectures are found. Advantages It has specific, straight-to-the-point, lecture videos about different disciplines. Disadvantages It can be boring.

Google reader

What is Google Reader? It is a feed reader where you can scan the websites you want to follow and it lists the new articles for you to be able to view it in one place. It compiles the different articles in one place for the user to be able to view it conveniently without changing or surfing from one site to another. It also allows the user to share the articles he/ she liked with her friends.Google reader was launched as a Google Labs in You can access Google Reader with the use of your Google account.
