Best Answer Question: What were the forces of change that caused the French Revolution? Answer: There were many changes taking place in France that contributed the French Revolution. Namely the weak leadership of King Louis XVI, the shortage of bread, and enlightenment ideas. King Louis XVI was racking up massive debt in France to pay for his extravagant lifestyle. He also supported the American revolution which put France further into debt. Secondly the shortage of flour in France caused the cost of bread to increase angering many French citizens. Bread was a major part of the French diet many people consumed 2.5 pounds of bread each day. Finally the ideas of the Enlightenment were spreading across France. The ideas of natural rights, popular sovereignty, and separation of powers were attractive ideas for French citizens who had few rights and no voice in their government.
