Mission Focus Kenya

In May’s Mission Focus we looked at the country of Kenya. Although the country has a good number of Christians and Evangelicals, they are still in need for prayer and awareness. There has been great persecution in recent years, with Christians suffering greatly. It is important to remember them in our prayers

Evening Programme 1.Song 2.Bible Reading 3.Kenya Quiz 4.Country Facts 5.Prayer Points 6.Song 7.DVD

Psalm 77 I cried out to God with my voice— To God with my voice; And He gave ear to me. 2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing; My soul refused to be comforted. 3 I remembered God, and was troubled; I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed.

Psalm 77 You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. 5 I have considered the days of old, The years of ancient times. 6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within my heart, And my spirit makes diligent search.

Psalm 77 Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favourable no more? 8 Has His mercy ceased forever? Has His promise failed forevermore? 9 Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?

Psalm 77 And I said, “This is my anguish; But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” 11 I will remember the works of the L ORD ; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. 12 I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds. 13 Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; Who is so great a God as our God?

Psalm 77 You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples. 15 You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. 16 The waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were afraid; The depths also trembled. 17 The clouds poured out water; The skies sent out a sound; Your arrows also flashed about.

Psalm The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lit up the world; The earth trembled and shook. 19 Your way was in the sea, Your path in the great waters, And Your footsteps were not known. 20 You led Your people like a flock By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Psalm 77 Before we started the mission focus, we looked at Psalm 77. This is a challenging psalm that starts with great doubt from the writer who was questioning God on a number of matters This can be a situation we can find ourselves in today as life can often be difficult and full of challenges

Psalm 77 However as Psalm 77 countries, despite our worries, it is always important to remember the Lord and how the good things he has given us and consider those less fortuned than us. As Christians we should always be thankful for our salvation through the Lord Jesus

Quiz Next we had a quiz about general facts about the country of Kenya! It was a fun way to learn the important facts about the country.

Kenya After our quiz, we talked about the country of Kenya, using information from Operation World and the Joshua Project we were able to focus at what life is like for Christians in Kenya and what prayer points we should remember

Kenya Facts Located in middle of East Africa 45 Million Area: 582,646 sq km Most people live in the fertile plateaus of the south and west. Much of the north and east is desert. Only 8.9% of the land is cultivable.

Christianity in Kenya Christianity - 82% Evangelicals – 49% Answers to prayer… 1.Is a regional / continental hub 2.A strong evangelical presence 3.A solid Gospel mission culture

Evangelism in Kenya 115 People groups in Kenya 31% is unreached for the Gospel 1.The Muslim Oromo related peoples 2.The Khoisan 3.The Mijikenda Peoples 4.The Coastal Swahili and Arab populations 5.The Somali 6.The Asian Community

Challenges to Prayer 1.Long term stability for country 2.Long term growth for church 3.Corruption in country 4.Political issues impacting the church 5.Young People 6.Islam is a increasing challenge

DVD We watched a 12 minute DVD produced by Release International highlighting the persecution suffered by Christians in Kenya. It was very challenging to hear how difficult it can be just to be a Christian and safely go to church in Kenya. We also learned of the testimonies of Christians in Kenya who despite everything they had suffered, still believed in Jesus and wanted to serve him

Please Pray… 1.For the persecuted Church in Kenya 2.For those who have been greatly affected by the persecution 3.That despite this, the church in Kenya can still evangelise and share the Gospel
