Presentation transcript:

‘India Experience’ Day On Tuesday 13 th October, Sunita visited Buzzard and Nightingale classes to support our learning about India. Firstly, she taught us to greet someone by saying ‘Namaste’ – the Hindi word for ‘hello’. Then she told us the exciting story about Prince Rama and his wife Sita; this is the story behind the Hindu festival of ‘Diwali’, which is happening in November. She also explained how Hindus pray and offer foods to their gods. They always remove their shoes to help keep the home clean, and wash their hands before praying. This photo shows items from a typical shrine.

Rangoli patterns These are beautiful symmetrical patterns placed at the front of your home to welcome visitors. We made ours using pastels, chalk and glitter. You can see them on display outside our classroom.

Later we all dressed in Indian saris, waistcoats, scarves, bangles and bindis

Here are our ‘royal family’!

Don’t we look lovely !

Dancing Sunita taught us several moves and actions to use in ‘Bollywood’ dancing. You can watch some video clips elsewhere on our class page

Then we learned a traditional Indian folk dance, where we tapped sticks with a partner then moved around in a big circle. It was very quick!

Yoga Finally, Sunita showed us how to sit and calmly hum to relax. We had a fantastic day!!!
