The Earth’s Layers Foldable Information This powerpoint will contain everything you will need included in your green earth’s layers foldable we constructed in class. If I took the time to put it on this ppt, you need to include it in your notes.
CRUST: The outermost layer of the earth The thinnest layer Solid Made of Silicon (Si), Oxygen (O), and Aluminum (Al) Two types of crust: oceanic, continental Oceanic is thinner, continental is thicker
Still CRUST: It is part of the Lithosphere. Lithosphere: crust and upper mantle Divided into tectonic plates
MANTLE Largest layer Plastic-like Contains a lot of Magnesium (Mg), Si and O. No one has ever drilled into the mantle.
Still MANTLE: It is part of the Asthenosphere. Convection currents cause UPLIFT, moving molten rock closer to the crust/surface. Tectonic plates move around on the mantle.
THE CORE Mostly composed of iron and nickel Outer core: LIQUID Inner core: SOLID (very, very dense)
