Neighborhood Action Team Quarterly Update November 25, 2003

Goal of the Neighborhood Action Team  Improve the quality of life for communities in Stockton by utilizing neighborhood based interventions and services

Current Projects  Carrington Circle  Weston Ranch  Neighborhood Service Center/Airport Way  Park Village Apartments/APSARA  Grant Village Apartments  River Oaks School  East Main Business Alliance

Carrington Circle  All Code violations in the area has been resolved. Code Enforcement will continue to monitor the area for compliance.  A.C.L.C. to receive $654,526 in Federal Tax Credit annually for 10 years to rehabilitate 10 duplexes and to construct Diamond Cove II. Diamond Cove II – 20 unit apartment building, Head Start, and community resource center. Weston Ranch Organization Committee (WROC)  Establishing a partnership with Manteca Unified School District for an Adult Education Facility and Alternative School.  Economic Development working with the community by providing updates on the upcoming Power Center.

Airport Way – South of Charter Way  Feasibility Study Underway for the Neighborhood Service Center Study conducted on William Brotherhood Park and the property along Ophir/Tenth/Airport Way by Tom Bowe. Park Village Apartments/APSARA  Teen Program at APSARA continues to work with at-risk youth.  Parks and Recreation exploring the possibility of combining activities with the Youth Leadership Club operated by APSARA

APSARA  Christine Tien received an award for her contribution to the Cambodian community at the 10 th Anniversary Celebration of APSARA.

Grant Village  Met with A.C.L.C, leaders of the Sikh Temple, and the Principal of Grant School to discuss concerns of the area.  Issues identified: Parking issues Parking issues Lack of activities for Youth Lack of activities for Youth  Action taken: Working with Grant School to expand their after school program beyond 3 rd grade. River Oaks School  Principal requests NAT assistance to partner with the City and the Neighborhood  Students along with Parks and Recreation and MUD helped clean up and stencil storm drains around Valverde Park and Angel Cruz Park on Sept. 26, 2003  An After school program will be started on the site.  Use site for a Teen Program and other Community needs once approved by the school’s board.

East Main Business Alliance  Chaired by Councilmember Giovanetti  Assist the merchants to become organized in order to form an association.  Working on expanding Façade Program to this area.  Business Watch to begin in area.  Merchants decided to give back to the community through involvement with Make a Difference Day at Fair Oaks Library
