DAVID’S ANOINTING AS KING Overview-1 Sam 16:1-13 The leadership of Saul began to fail, nation was worsening, yet all through this difficult time, God was at work. We see the difference between the way man functions and the way God functions.

THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANOINTING IS GODS People had rejected God’s leadership. Hosea 13:1 “ I gave thee a king in mine anger and took him away in my wrath”. The selection of Saul was initiated by man. Selection of David- Divine initiative 1Sam 16:1 “ ….I have provided me a king” The ideal king was one whose kingdom and life reflected a heart for the Lord.

THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ANOINTING IS GODS 1 Sam 16:6,7 AV 1Sa 16:6. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed [is] before him. AV 1Sa 16:7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for [the LORD seeth] not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. A strong, servant like and special spirit-One can always work well with the person who wants what God wants. God wants a servant spirit-Psalm 89:20 The Lord calls David “my servant”. Leadership in the church is servanthood. Moses was tending sheep in the desert, Joseph in prison, David a shepherd etc

THE RESPONSE TO ANOINTING IS GODS David was 16 years old when anointed by Samuel but didn’t become king until he was 30 years old. When a person is filled with the Spirit of God everything in life has a new quality. a.He was tending sheep not knowing that God was preparing him to be King of Israel. We too should be faithful and obedient to him knowing he has a plan for us and will use us in His perfect time. b.God is doing a work in our lives in a way we are not acquainted with. His ways are different from our ways.

Your thoughts……
