Metro Interface o More user friendly o Tiles used as menu shortcuts o To increase the popularity of touch screens o Internet explorer redesigned to look and feel like the rest of the operating system

Live Tiles  The software featured on the screen  Desktop is an app rather than the default interface  Can be grouped, resized and removed  The ‘windows store’ is a new app store to download software

Windows vs. Macintosh Windows 95% of people using the internet use windows Industry specific software is more available More software must be purchased or downloaded to prevent viruses Is most commonly used worldwide Mac Widely known to be more confusing May only be used on apple products Is seen as more unique and professional Mac are ‘virus-free’

New ‘Charm Bar’  Has been introduced for the first time on windows  ‘Universal toolbar’ of windows 8  You can access it on the right side of your screen with other applications open by dragging the mouse over it  Has five different buttons :

The intention of Microsoft when launching Windows 8 TO INCREASE THE USE OF TOUCH SCREEN COMPUTERS TO MAKE COMPUTERS EASIER FOR EVERYONE TO USE TO MAKE MICROSOFT TABLETS AS POPULAR AS IPADS

Pros and Cons of Windows 8 Pros Is compatible with tablets and touch screens Makes it easier for computer users to access files New windows store to download applications Is safer from viruses and threats to your computer Runs faster than windows 7 Cons Harder to adjust for regular windows 7 users Its been seen to have similar traits to mac People are resistant to change Location access is easily shared from apps on windows 8
