A SEMINAR PRESENTATION ON EICHER ENGINE Prepared by Sunil Kumar Sharma 4th yr. Mechanical engg. Poornima college of engineering

Contents:- Introduction of company. About My training project. Engine Product range. Engine manufacturing processes. Engine testing.

introduction Eicher is one of the newly added to the TMTL group. The main plant of this company is situated in Bhopal. Production capacity is about 25000 tractor per annum. Engine variation are from 24 Hp to 61 Hp. Eicher has R&D center at Bhopal which has pro/E, Adams, mechanical test beds for developing new products.

Eicher engine product range at alwar plant Eicher is producing world’s most tractor engines which includes 24HP, 30HP, 35Hp, 42HP air cooled diesel engines. It is producing 62HP water cooled diesel engines also. assembly of engines are divided into four parts. 115 assembly. 298 assembly. 398 assembly. Valtra assembly or water cooled engine assembly.

About of my training project My project was to increase the capacity generation for 500/month valtra components from the current level of 300/month.

Production process of valtra engine Manufacturing process can be divided into two parts. First one is machining work. Second one is assembly line work. Machining process is done for both components cylinder head & cylinder block. For cylinder block my perform these operations.

1. Tapping It is done for cylinder head. It make internal threads in head. Selection of tape:- Tape size- 7*1.25mm Pitch- 1.25mm Drill size- 7.5mm

2. CNC Operations It is used to make valves and valve seats. Finishing is also done on this machine. The tool is move in 5 directions.

3. Valve guide pressing It is very safety step. In this liquid nitrogen gas is used to cooled the valve guide. The temperature is about -35 oc. Pressing is done by the help of pneumatic pressure.

4. deburring it is used for remove metal chips. Carbide driller tool is used. Chamfering also done. Air pressure is used.

5. Leakage test It is done in water mainly. Check the air bubbles. Dipped for about 5-6 min. in water. It is also done by air pressure for reducing cycle time.

6. washing ASTM B322 liquid is used for cleaning. Water break test is also used for washing. Mili bore is done for head. Value for cylinder block mili bore is 7

For cylinder block may perform these operations

1. Block doweling Main purpose of Dowel is used to attaché two parts. They are look like hole without thread. Made of metal, wood and plastic also.

2. Go to the vendors Vendors are machine India or GH hitch. Finishing and some drilling operations are performed in this step. it is time taken process.

3. Tapping & chamfering Make internal threads on cylinder block. Chamfering is also done on threaded holes. Setup is much similar to doweling process.

4. Makino a81 It’s a CNC machine. Front face resisting face. MS/F 4701 coolant is used for cooling. Hydraulic clamping is used.

5. Main bearing cap Main function is to support the crank shaft. In a engine we used minimum no. of 2 bearing cap at each end of crankshaft. Torque value for the bolts is 30Kg-m

6. Boring of block operations are preformed cam bore, cylinder bore and fine boring. Resisting face is bottom face. Fixtures are used to hold the work piece.

7. Washing and deburring Chemical agents and water are used for washing. Air cleaning also used. Oil cleaning is also done. Cap fitting for prevent leakage.

8. Leakage testing Water is used for checking. Takes about 15 min. Done by air pressure also for reducing cycle time.

9. washing ASTM B322 is used for washing. Washing is done for removing metal particles and oil. ASTM F22 is also used in industries now a days.

10. Liner height setting The value of height in microns and it is 2-3 microns. Set by a special type of gauge called height gauge. Value of height is different for different piston arrangement.

11. Final inspection check tapping in holes. Check chamfering in holes. Check no metal chip was left in block holes. Check Washing is properly.
