My Family  Married to my college sweetheart, Wayne Johnson for 34 years  Wayne is Congregational Pastor at First Baptist Church of Buford  Two children: Ashley and Matthew  Ashley is dance teacher and choreographer at Buford High School  Matthew works at Fleet Feet and is the cross country community coach at Buford High School.

Overview  Grammar and Mechanics  Daily Grammar Practice (DGP)  Various grammar units throughout the year  Literature Units  Relationships  Discovery  Overcoming Challenges  Accepting Others’ Differences  Each unit will incorporate a variety of genres including; fiction, non fiction, poetry, myths, and drama  Independent Reading  2 fiction and 1 nonfiction book required each quarter.

Kinds of Writing  Narrative  Argumentative  Comparative  Expository (Informative)  Persuasive Essays  Oral Presentations  Response to Literature  Journal Responses  Writing is both short and extended constructed response

Grading Scale:  Summative Assessments: 50% (Tests, Projects, Papers, Performance Tasks)  Formative Assessments: 35% (Daily Work, Homework, Quizzes)  Quarterly Benchmark Test 15%

Tips For Parents  Grammar:  Independent Reading Comprehension Questions: What is the exposition of your book (setting, central conflict, characters)? Use adjectives to describe your main character. What is his/her personality? What are some interesting events that have happened? Did anything surprise you? What is an internal or external conflict in your book? What is the theme or life lesson? Is there any foreshadowing (hints about the future) that helped you make predictions?  Check teacher’s website regularly ( th grade)
