Providing open access to articles will rapidly become a “standard” service that publishers provide to authors. There is evidence that open access publication confers advantages of discoverability (and perhaps ultimately) citations. As open access becomes the norm, any “static” advantage conferred by open access decreases. The principles of open access can guide us to other dynamic strategies. The era of Open Access
