Asian Americans An Issue of Social Justice by Yung-chih Hu

Asian Americans Definition and History  Asian-Americans are immigrants from Far East, Southeast Asia, Indian subcontinent.  First Asians that come to the U.S. were Chinese Filipino.  The first large-scale immigration of Asians into the U.S. happened around  52% of Asian Americans are foreign-born from Asia  Asian-Americans Population were 18,205,898 in 2011.

Why is this a social justice issue?  Anti-Asian racism / Racial Discrimination  Discrimination in college admissions  Asian Americans are still paid less in the U.S.  Denigrating stereotypes  Language difference became a violence

Any ties to other social justice issues?  Ties to racist against women  Ties to economic justice  Ties to LGBTQ  Ties to workplace discrimination

Any good news?  Asian Americans are the fastest growing racial group in the U.S.  In term of occupational attainment, Asian Americans seem to have attained the most prestigious jobs.  Some well-known universities are not racist at all.

Who can we do?  See Asians the same as any other races  Take stereotypes out of your brain  Be respectful to Asian culture  Do not say something that are racist  Be respectful to all races
