Week 16 Quick Start 8 th Grade

Thomas Jefferson wanted to reduce the size of the Federal government. Name three policies he pursued to achieve this goal.

In 1803, these two guys sued each other over a “midnight appointment” to the Supreme Court by John Adams. Who are they and what precedent did their case establish?

Jefferson sent Robert Livingston and James Monroe to buy this port town owned by the French, but they wound up buying a much larger piece of real estate. What did they buy and how much did they pay?

In 1803, Jefferson sent his private secretary (pictured right) and a partner to explore the newly acquired property. Who were they and what was the name given to their venture?

A Native American guide helped with the venture substantially. Who was she and how did she aid the explorers?
