An isometry is a transformation that does not change the shape or size of a figure. Reflections, translations, and rotations are all isometries. Isometries.

Presentation transcript:

Transformation: Translation and Reflection Objective: To identify and solve problems involving translation, reflection, rotation and dilation Transformation – when a geometric figure is changed in its position, shape or size. Translation – the process of moving point/s in a sliding motion To translate a point as described by ordered pair, add the coordinates of the ordered pair to the coordinate of the point (x, y) translated by (a, b), becomes (x+a, y+b) COPY THE NOTES

Reflection – or flip, is an isometry in which a figure and its image have opposite orientation. Line of symmetry is the line of reflection, also known as reflectional symmetry Reflect the figure across y = 3 then x = -1
