Using Properties of Transformations to Show Congruence VOCABULARY
Congruent Polygons Two polygons are congruent if they have exactly the same shape and size.
Transformations A transformation is a change in position, shape, or size of a figure. Three types of transformations that change position only are translations, reflections, and rotations.
Rotations A rotation is a transformation that turns a figure about a fixed point, called the center of rotation.
Reflections A reflection is a transformation that flips a figure over a line of reflections.
Translation A translation is a transformation that slides each point of a figure the same direction and in the same direction.
Rigid Motion Is the action of taking an object and moving it to a different location without altering its shape or size. Rotations, reflections, and translations are examples of rigid motion.
