What I Assume You need to devote a lot of time and odd hours Not a very secure job Major in communications Good speaking skills No stage fright Have the ability to handle pressure Good memorization skills People skills
What I Learned A BA is required but what you major in isn’t very important Reading a lot and writing with a creative style will help Salary increases the longer you work, the first few years is around $40,000 a year and after 20 years or more of working the salary will range anywhere from $60,000 to $140,000 a year. You do a lot of editing for your own script Practicing speaking and asking questions is very beneficial
Advantages You get to learn new things every day Always different and exciting Use your voice to help your community Lend a hand to causes you have a passion for. It’s a lot of fun
Disadvantages It’s a lot of hours Not much time for a social life It’s hard if you have a family
Job Shadow! For my job shadow I got to go to KCRA 3 and shadow Edie Lambert. We did a lot of editing and overviews of scripts I got to read off of the teleprompter and stand in front of the green wall I watched two live broadcasts; the 4:00 and 6:00 news. I interviewed Edie Lambert, Mark Finan and Walt Gray I got a tour of the whole place, including the set room, the control room, the office, and the graphics room
Pictures! Edie Lambert recording a voiceover at the sound booth Camera man showing me how to control the cameras Technical producer
More pictures… Me and Walt Gray at the studio desk. Me controlling the cameras Me and the camera man in front of the green screen

Do I still Want to do This Job? Yes, although the hours seem hard and there isn’t a lot of time for social things, it seems like a really fun job and something I would enjoy doing every day.
