L & G Citizenship Day 1 Objectives for Training To become familiar with the key concepts of the citizenship curriculum To provide a wide range of teaching strategies to help deliver citizenship To provide access to a wide range of resources and NGO’s for teaching citizenship To plan for the delivery of citizenship in Year 8 beginning Sept To create a network of citizenship teachers who can support and share ideas with each other.

L & G Citizenship Day 1 Objectives for Day 1 To introduce the key concepts of the citizenship curriculum. To introduce “Circle Time” as an active learning method. To introduce the key concepts of human rights education. To provide information and resources from UNICEF To get to know other teachers in the group and discuss possible approaches to the introduction of citizenship. L & G Citizenship Day 1 Diversity and Inclusion Investigation of the concepts of diversity and inclusion provides opportunities for young people to consider the range and extent of diversity in societies locally and globally and to identify the challenges and opportunities which diversity and inclusion present.

L & G Citizenship Day 1 Equality and Social Justice Investigation of the concepts of equality and social justice provides opportunities for young people to understand that society needs to safequard individual and collective rights and ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly.

L & G Citizenship Day 1 Democracy and Active Participation Investigation of the concepts of democracy and active participation provides opportunities for young people to understand how to participate in, and to influence democratic processes and to be aware of some key democratic institutions and their role in promoting inclusion, justice and democracy.

L & G Citizenship Day 1 Human Rights and Social Responsibility Underlying all of these concepts are the principles of human rights and of social responsibility. Young people will be provided opportunities to understand that a globally accepted values-base exists, within the various human rights international instruments, which outline the rights of individuals and groups in democratic societies.
