PRECALCULUS HONORS Hallman-Morris, Iglesias, Wood TC Roberson High School

What have you gotten yourselves into? The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has mandated rigor for all honors mathematics courses. There should be a minimum of half an hour of homework each night It is your responsibility to keep up with the work. You will often be able to start the assignment in class and work with your group.

Math is not a spectator sport! It is imperative to your success to try all the homework and ask for help if needed. We will be making an Interactive Notebook. It is essential that you join the group and be an active learner.

Grading TESTS QUIZZES NOTEBOOKS HOMEWORK PROJECTS

TESTS Test will always be announced and are worth 100 points each. We will have a major test covering each chapter. Each test will always be preceded by a review day.

Quizzes Quizzes may be announced or unannounced. They are worth points each. You should expect a quiz about every other day. Imagine quiz clipart here.

Homework Collected homework ▫Graded for either correctness or effort depending on the assignment ▫Points for collected homework will vary. Homework is essential to success. You need to try every problem, check the answer in the back of the book, and be prepared to ask questions. The assignments are picked to reflect important ideas and are not busy work.

Projects There will be a variety of projects and labs throughout the semester. The objective is to move the mathematics out of the textbook and into the real world. Points for these will vary.

Interactive Notebooks For this class, you will keep a notebook with both teacher-provided input (notes, graphic organizers, other content) and student-created output (reflections, summaries, foldables, etc). The interactive notebook will allow you to process information to improve your understanding. help you learn new ideas by having you use several types of writing and graphics to record them. allow you to do something with those ideas. You should bring this notebook to class everyday.

spiral bound notebook – 100 pages, grids prefered calculator TI – 83/84/89 homework notebook (looseleaf or bound) sense of humor regular and colored pencils ruler stamina regular and graph paper SUPPLIES – COME PREPARED!

One Last Thing…. CHEATING IS WRONG. PERIOD.

MISCELLANEOUS Make up work is your responsibility. Don’t get behind. I am here almost every morning and every afternoon. You need to come and get help as soon as you have questions. Use SMART period wisely!! Your final grade will be determined by averaging the numerical grade from each nine weeks and the exam.

More Miscellaneous It is your choice to take an honors level class NO WHINING You must be prepared to work hard. I will do everything that I can to help you to be successful, BUT you must earn the final grade on your own.
