Queen Victoria was born 24 th May She was born at Kensington Palace, London. Her parents were Prince Edward and Princess Victoria Mary Louisa. She was christened as ‘Alexandrina Victoria’ but was known as Her Royal Highness Princess Victoria of Kent. Her nickname was Drina.
As a child, Queen Victoria was always anxious to be good although she was terribly naughty. Queen Victoria never went to a proper school but she was taught at home. She was taught to play the piano and how to paint. When she was three years old, she learnt to speak English and French.
When she was 21, Queen Victoria married her cousin – Albert of Saxe-Coburg Gotha. They married 10 th February 1840 at Chapel Royal in St. James’s Palace. Albert died aged 42. At this Queen Victoria was devastated so she wore black to mourn her husband for the rest of her reign.
Queen Victoria had 9 children, 40 grand children and 37 great grand children.
Queen Victoria lived in many houses. She lived in Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Osborn House and Balmoral Castle. She was the first monarch to live in Buckingham Palace.
Queen Victoria loved singing and enjoyed painting and drawing. She also loved going to the Opera.
Queen Victoria died on the 22 nd January 1901 at Osborn House on Isle of Wight. She was 81. She reigned for exactly 63 years, 7 months and 2 days.
