Proposal for Parking Domain Central Ohio Technical College Cindy Hottinger

Introduction As a member of the student body of Central Ohio Technical College I am proposing that the parking domain particularly the section of Founder’s Hall and Hopewell Hall be revised. The anticipated end result is that the parking will meet the needs of the current visitors, faculty and student body. This revision is detrimental in meeting safety codes recommended by the National Safety Commission. The total anticipated budget would be $5,

Purpose Create Improvements for the parking domain at Central Ohio Technical College for visitors, faculty and students of the Newark Branch.

Problem The Newark Branch parking domain is antiquated having been developed in It does not meet the needs of the population that attend the campus in 2012.

Examine new ideas and implementations to include redesign of the parking areas. Provide assistance related to this new layout and coordinate the development of redesign. Success is dependent not only on the facility, but also on the University’s willingness, effort and support of the new concept. Scope

Problem Statement Approximately 200 lots are reserved for faculty. Records on file, November 2012, reveal 78 faculty members on the directory. COTC faculty are not all housed in Founder/Hopewell Hall’s therefore the number of faculty spaces currently are not needed.

Problem Statement The parking facility holds approximately 700 lots. Records on file indicate that there are 4,350 students registered at COTC Autumn Quarter of 2012.

Problem Statement When the facility was established in 1965 the student bodies’ average age was 17 – 24 years. According to the U.S. Department of Education in 2007 an increase of 235% of the student body is the age group of 40+. A percentage of this increase is students the age of 55 to 79 years.

Problem Statement There are currently no directional patterns in the current facility creating uncertainty among drivers in accordance to the traffic paths and the right away of other drivers. Directional arrows and patterning will maintain a safe roadway.

Problem Statement Recent news of a physical attack on a female student during campus hours arise a concern of safety. Data on state university facts indicates that 72.4% of the student body at COTC is female. 72.4% 27.6%

Problem Statement The length, lack of lighting and isolation from buildings is a major concern Those attending evening classes arrive to a filled facility with no option other than to park near Sharon Valley Road. When classes dismiss the parking area is vacant. These types of situations are forcing individuals to disregard current safety alerts posted from the National Safety Commission..

Objectives Redesign of the current parking domain to enhance the visual effect for visitors, faculty and student body. Make certain that traffic patterns are clearly marked for the wellbeing of all drivers of the facility.

Provide ample parking for automobile drivers that need to visit the campus whether they are handicapped, visitor, faculty and/or a member of the student body. Ensure that the safety codes recommended by the National Safety Commission are being met. Key Benefits
