Advisory Panel on Substance Misuse (APoSM) Wales Chair - Kyrie James

APoSM - APOSM is a Welsh Government Sponsored Body established under general executive powers of the Welsh Ministers and funded by the Welsh Government

APoSM – tasks Downsize the number of members Ensure independence and ‘arms length’ Advertise expert vacancies Co-opt members for specific work streams

APoSM Diversity scheme established Mentoring scheme set up Regular training and talks for the Panel Appraisal system Sub-committees for each report

Constitution “in relation to exercising their public health functions in relation to substance misuse (and where appropriate), to advise on relevant non-devolved matters – such as criminal justice issues... to advise the Minister on measures to prevent or reduce substance misuse, the associated health and social harms”

APoSM Remit “ The Panel shall provide advice to support an evidence-based approach to policy making and to review relevant matters through an annual work programme, agreed with the Minister, which includes the following matters: Advise on delivery and effectiveness of the Welsh Substance Misuse Strategy; Substance misuse issues and operational arrangements; The impact of policy developments in related fields; Review of relevant matters with the Minister through an agreed work programme.”
