U.S.News and World reports July 15, 2010 Substance abuse treatment admissions for non medical use of prescription pain relievers have increased 400% over ten years

November 2010 Department 5 had over 12,000 open cases cases are addictive substance related cases. Based on the violation codes* over 70% of the cases in department five were related to an addictive substance. * These numbers were taken November 12, 2010 from the current computer management system- The codes ran were for: possession of marijuana, DUI(drugs/alcohol), possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication. (These numbers do not include other charges such as prostitution or battery domestic violence where addictive substance are commonly involved.) Court intervention had become necessary

Cost To The Las Vegas Community

Jail Costs To house an defendant in the local jail for a 12 month period would cost the tax payers of the City of Las Vegas an estimated $48,545. (The last audit for Las Vegas City Jail was $133 a day to house an inmate) Average 30 Participants x $54,000 x 1.5 (average time to graduate) = $2.2 m
