UNIT 12, LESSON 1 PROPHETIC WRITING

LESSON HIGHLIGHTS We will understand what apocalypse/revelation means. We will be introduced to the symbolism and imagery of the Book of Revelation. The Book of Revelation brings hope as it unveils the new heaven and the new Earth. The last book of the Bible is a blending of apocalyptic literature and prophecy.

PROPHETIC WRITING Write the word Revelation on the board. List words that you associate with the last book of the Bible. Create a semantic web.

PROPHETIC WRITING This unit will be devote to the Book of Revelation. When artist’s finish a project they often have an “unveiling” to reveal their precious work. The Book of Revelation is a revealing/unveiling/uncovering of what the new heaven and the new Earth will be like. Another word for “revealing” or “unveiling” is the Greek apocalypse.

PROPHETIC WRITING Read “The Bible’s Last Word” (page 155), “A Time of Trouble” (page 157), and the sidebar “The Island of Patmos” (page 158) in the student text. Please open your Bibles to the Book of Revelation and page through it. Discuss imagery and symbolism. Q: What are simple examples of symbolism? A: A ring – love and devotion; a flag – devotion to one’s country; or a purple heart – bravery.

PROPHETIC WRITING Please distribute the activity sheet. Let’s go over a couple of examples together before completing the references on your own.
