Career Ready

Career Ready Programme  Two year, structured programme  Mentoring by an employee of a business partner  Masterclasses delivered by a business partner  Workplace visits  Paid 5 week Internship during Summer 2017  All Scotland Graduation Event in Spring 2018

Career Ready Students  A suitable candidate for the Career Ready Programme is:-  Planning to stay on at school for S5 and S6.  Is available to accept the 5 week continuous internship in summer  Is studying between 1 and 3 subjects at Higher in S5 with at least 1 in a STEM subject and probably similar in S6.

Outline Plan – S5  Programme Launch Event – Meet your Mentor  School Launch – Parents / Students / Mentors  3 Masterclasses in S5 – delivered by business partners  5 meetings with mentor – where possible at their workplace  Internship

Outline Plan – S6  Reconnection event in school for parents / students / mentors and school coordinator  5 Meetings with mentor  3 Masterclasses, delivered by business partner  All Scotland Graduation Event

Benefits of Involvement  Partnership with business – insight into the world of work  Raise aspirations – mentoring encourages “can-do” attitude  Builds confidence and develops key transferable skills - employability skills  Helps youngsters make informed and enhanced career choices  Helps build networks for now and the future  Get an insight into different careers and different career paths  Helps with applications for college, university, or employment  Bridges the gap between school and the world of work

Mentoring  Meetings throughout programme approx. every 4-6 weeks  Where possible, meetings at mentor’s workplace  Students arrange meetings and organise transport for themselves  Meetings – around minutes  /phone contact as needed  Support during internship

The Internship  Last week of term and 4 weeks of Summer holidays  Students undergo interview prior to placement  Job descriptions created for each internship  Opportunity to learn about all aspects of an organisation  Helps develops skills – communication, use of IT, problem-solving, time-management, working with others….
