Setting of “Blood Is Thicker”  Starts at Bluford High School in.. Los Angeles, California then moved to Detroit where Hakeem has to continue his life living with his uncle and his kids.

Book-Review  Hakeem Randall is a young teen that feels like life is becoming to much to handle. Hakeem moves from California to Detroit because, his father is sick with cancer. They could no longer afford to live in their house, so they had to move with Hakeems uncle in Detroit. Where Hakeem’s dad was offered a better job due to his illness.

The Separation!  Hakeem had no other choice but to break up with his girlfriend Darcy Wills after a year long relationship. “ The tears in Darcy eyes was like daggers slicing deep into Hakeem heart. He watched her walk down the short driveway; Hakeem says “ If there was anything he could do to stop his family from moving away, he would have done it. But the decision was out of his hands.

The Change The Change  He didn’t like living with his uncle and cousin (Savon) because they really didn’t get along. Savon is bigger than him. When Hakeem enters the house his cousin begins to tease him. He finds out that he has to sleep on Savon’s room which he doesn’t like.

Facts About HAKEEM!  HE ENJOYED PLAYING THE GUITAR, AND SINGING BUT HAKEEM HAD STUDDERING PROBLEMS EVENTHOUGH HE DONT STUDDER WHEN HE SINGS.

Hakeem’s Job  Hakeem started working at his uncle furniture store to help his uncle out. His cousin Savon didn’t but Hakeem would see Savon sneaking in the window at night bringing lots of money back and stashing it in the drawers. Hakeem began to wonder ?????? Was he taking place in gang related activity??? Or did he involve his self with drugs???

On Savon?? On Savon??  The next day after Hakeem began to wonder about Savon he went to work at his uncle store. There was cops at the Dollar Store right beside his. The Dollar Store had been robbed. Hakeem started thinking that it was his cousin Savon who robbed the store.

Hakeem confronts Savon  Hakeem went back to his house where he saw Savon running up the stairs to his room. Hakeem followed Savon and said “ I know where you got that money from” him and Savon got into an agument and they started fighting. Savon’s dad went into the room and asked what the matter was.?.. He explained to them “Blood Is Thicker” and they shouldn’t fight because they are family. Savon got grounded for fighting and Hakeem admitted it was his fault because he started the fight.

Needed To Relieve Stress  Hakeem went outside to play his guitar and write in his notebook. A girl started clapping because she liked his music. Her name was Anika! They started talking and Anika said that she lived with her grandma who might get sent to the old folks home. If her grandma goes she’s going to run away to Los Angeles to see her aunty.

…….The Connection…….  Anika asked Hakeem could he teach her how to play the guitar. Hakeem said okay! He went to Anika’s house and he taught her how to play the guitar.

~His Missing Notebook~  When Hakeem went home he noticed that his book was gone with all his personal stuff. He forgot it at Anika’s house and said he would go to Anika’s house the next day to pick it up…… He ate dinner and went up to his room to sleep and then he heard Savon go out the window again. He saw him come back and put something in his drawer. It was money.

The Robbery Continues  The next day he went to work at his uncle’s shop and his uncle said another store got robbed. He went to Anika house to tell her what happen. He knocked and knocked but no- one answered! He went in to look around and no one was there. He couldn’t find his notebook no where. He knew that Anika’s grandma went to the old folks home and Anika went to Los Angeles.

 Hakeem went home, ate supper and went to his room. He was trying to sleep and then he heard Savon go outside his window. Hakeem followed him and he came to a club. He went inside and he saw Savon on stage rapping and he said said that’s where Savon getting his money from. He went to the bathroom to get his head together and some boys started picking on him and then Savon came and saved him from those boys.

 Hakeem told Savon that he was sorry for blaming him for the robberies. They went home and then they went inside where everybody was arguing. They sorted things out and Savon started working at his dad furniture store. He told his dad he was a rapper, Then he went up stairs and went to sleep. When Hakeem woke up he ate and saw a package. It was his notebook and a letter it was from Anika
