Muscle System

Where is the muscle system located? Under your skin Everywhere in your body

What is the role of the muscle system? Muscles allow you to move!

What organs are involved in your system? Your heart is the only organ that is a muscle

What are your main functions of the muscle system? Moving bones Move the body about Muscles are responsible for involuntary movements such as the diaphragm moving to help you breathe

What is each organ’s function in your body system? The function of the heart is to bring nutrients and oxygen to the rest of the muscles It pumps blood constantly and is the hardest working muscle in your entire body.

What can go wrong with your body system? Deterioration Muscular dystrophy- progressive weakness and degeneration of the skeletal muscles that control movement. Many other diseases can be obtained and cause problems in the muscle system.

How do you perform these functions? Because of chemical reactions that occur in the body, you produce very small amounts of electrical energy. This electrical energy sends a message to your heart and makes it beat. There is a patch of cells in the upper right chamber of your heart called the "pacemaker" that first gets the electrical signal and then sends the signal on to the rest of the parts of the heart. There are parts in your brain that can control how FAST or SLOW your heart beats, but for normal, everyday beating, the pacemaker keeps your heart going. Some people have a bad pacemaker and need to get an artificial one. Muscles are made up of cells that work together to pull, and work like levers. When a muscle is working, it is contracting and all the cells are pulling closer and closer together.

How do people make sure their muscle system remains healthy? Work out Eat protein such as steak, chicken, and fish Take vitamins For more information call 1800-MUSCLES

What would happen if something went wrong with the muscle system? If certain muscles stopped working, the body would not be able to function correctly. If the nerves got cut off, the muscles wouldn’t receive any messages from the brain. Inactive muscles deteriorate over time.

Could a person survive without the muscle system? NO The heart is the most important muscle in the entire body you would die with out it. The loss of it would stop the blood carrying the oxygen and nutrients to the cells

Why are you an important to the human body? The muscle system provides most of the basic important functions in the body.
