Types of Organisational Structures ... Hierarchical (tall) Flat These can be CENTRALISED or DECENTRALISED! Why might a business chose to have a decentralised structure?

Responsibilities for jobs At the “top” of the organisation: DIRECTORS – what are their responsibilities? Usually one for each department! The policies of the business Long Term planning – “strategic” activities Setting short term objectives – “targets” eg – how will we make $1m profit? how will we reduce waste by 10%?

The Day to Day running of the departments: Carry out the instructions from the Directors “Delegate” work to other workers Make sure the departments targets are met Solve daily problems Manage people & finances

Responsibilities for jobs EMPLOYEES – what are their responsibilities? They listen to managers and carry out their tasks They meet the targets set by the managers The produce work to a high standard They work together as a TEAM to make the business efficient!
