Chapter 1 Living a Healthy Life

What is Health? Health is… the combination of : 1) physical 2) mental/emotional 3) and social well-being

3 Dimensions of Health PHYSICAL SOCIAL MENTAL/EMOTIONAL Physical – get enough sleep and rest, eat nutritious meals, drink enough water, and be physically active on a regular basis. Mental/Emotional – enjoy challenges, like to learn new things, stand up for their beliefs and values, in touch with their feelings and can express them, can deal with frustration, avoid dwelling on negative thoughts Social – able to make and keep friends, works and plays in cooperative ways, communicates well and shows respect and care for yourself and others.

Becoming Health Literate Health Literacy refers to…a person’s capacity to learn about and understand basic health information and services and use these resources to promote his or her health and wellness. Health Literacy refers to…a person’s capacity to learn about and understand basic health information and services and use these resources to promote his or her health and wellness. This class will help you become Health Literate!!
