Overview

Overall Problem and Solution Problem People want to be happier and their busy lives can get in the way. Solution A system that will facilitate increased happiness taking into account individual context.

Contextual Inquiry - Description To better triangulate on the problem, we facilitated semi-guided interview. All with students at the University of Washington (Seattle) age 21 or 22. The interviews were conducted on or near campus.

Contextual Inquiry - Results Most often repeated themes To-do lists Time management

Contextual Inquiry- Results

Task Analysis - The People Target Large (anyone who wants to be happier) Focus College-aged and above Middle class Busy schedules but with some free-time

Task Analysis - The Tasks Current tasks Use calendars, keep track of schedule, see a movie, exercise, eat healthy, read, see friends, many more. Desired tasks Be better able to fit the things that make you most happy into your life without much overhead

Representative Task #1 Do something with a small amount of time to improve momentary happiness and work to make a habit out of this task. Example: Eat a large, healthy breakfast

Representation Task #2 Increase productivity by taking suggestions for fun activities during open blocks of time. Example: Going for a hike when you have a number of free hours

Representative Task #3 Reflect on the areas of your life that most need an improvement in happiness and use this reflection to modify your behavior. Example: After realizing how little you have seen your friends recently plan a recurring gathering to prevent this from happening

Early Design Sketches

Summary Help people modify behavior in a way fitting with their overall lives to improve their overall happiness.

Task Analysis - The Details I Didn't Cover Already Where? Everywhere Data? Sensitive and critical Tools? Wide-ranging Communication? Optional Time-constraints? None Frequency? Can vary, hopefully often Things Go Wrong? "Learn" from mistakes
