Answer  Aborigines are the native people of Australia and have occupied the continent/country for at least 40,000 years. They arrived from Southeast Asia and entered from the north. They built containers for storing water and wells to connect to underground water. They were nomadic people. Aborigines believe that Ayers Rock, the natives refer to it as Uluru and is sacred. They also believe in “Dreamtime”, a time when spirits walked the earth and told of the Creation of the world. Clans or communities join for daily food gathering and hunting.

Answer  English Captain James Cook claimed the Australian east coast for England in The Georgia colony of North America was used as a prisoner colony. At the colony was lost Australia was a good choice because it had no colonies from other countries and their seemed to be few native people. From 1788 to 1823, the colony of New South Wales was officially a penal colony.

Answer  European settlers had an immediate impact on Aboriginal life. They took over the land and resources. The most damaging things were diseases such as smallpox. The British guns gave colonist a major advantage in fights.

In 1788, England began to build prisons to house convicts. Europeans introduced Christianity to Australia in Today, most Australians are Christians. Muslims, Buddhists, Jews and Hindus combine to make up less than 5% of the population.
