WishGoal

 What are the differences between wishes and goals? What are the similarities of a goal and a wish.  How many wishes on your sheet can become goals and how many goals are actual wishes?  Discuss the difference between a failure and failing on a goal.

1. Write the goal 2. Outline the Specific Steps to Achieve the Goal 3. Obstacles for Achieving the Goal 4. Time Frame

 Write one personal goal and why this goal is important to you.  Describe what the goal will looks like when it is finished. Example: My goal is to get an “A” in Math 10 this year. When I achieve this goal I will feel very proud and my parents will be so happy they will take me out for a nice dinner.

 Outline all the steps to achieve the goal.  Break each step down into small manageable tasks that can be accomplished.  Student wants to be professional skateboarder Begin practicing on daily basis Learn specific tricks Experiment Take lessons Read books on professional skateboarders Steps cannot be to simply play video games of skateboarding and experiment the moves on the weekend. They need to look into all the aspects of a professional skateboarder.

 Chart the blocks on attaining your goal and include how you will deal with each issue.  Example: professional skateboarding goal  Obstacles: may not have finances for lessons  they must problem solve how to get the money or other ways of learning how to skateboard.  student may take out movies and books from the local library  begin to do additional chores in the home or begin to save money from their birthday. This part is excellent because often we do not think of the obstacles in achieving our goals.

 Write an approximate deadline for achieving your goal.  As well, chart deadlines for small goals to achieve ultimate goal.  It is best for students and adults to see small successes otherwise to prevent frustration and walking away from the goal.  To become a professional skateboarder it will take years of practice and hard work, it is ideal that he/she has smaller goals that are attainable in weeks, and months.

 Write two goals, one goal specific to planning class, and one goal of your choice.  For each goal you’ll need to complete the four steps and have a plan to address potential obstacles.
