Construct a map of China that highlights: 1.THE DYNASTIES. The boundaries of the Xia, Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties 2.THE RIVERS. The Huang (Hwang), Chang Jiang (Yangtze) and Xi rivers 3.GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES. The Himalayas, the Gobi and Taklamakan Deserts 4.CITIES. The main cities of Ancient China - Beijing (Peking), Chengdu, Yan’an, Anyang, Kaifeng, Nanjing, Luoyang and Hangzou.

After finishing your map use your information to answer these questions. 1.What do you notice about the boundary of each dynasty compared to the one before it? Suggest why and how this may have happened. 2.What do you notice about the rivers and the location of the cities in Ancient China? Why did this happen? Can you think of some modern example of this? 3.What affect would the three geographical features have had on the spread of China’s borders and its trade with other nations?
