Perkins Supplemental Grants FY17

“Innovation” funding It is 10% off of what goes to the field – We give about 11 million in Perkins to the field – We have about 1 million in supplemental grants Grants range from $50,000 on down – Grant may have an identified amount – Grant may not have an identified amount – Always have more requests than funding

Supplemental Grants for FY17 Gateway to Technology (Middle school STEM program) High Growth and Emerging Technologies (career academies) Career Development Recruiting Students to Nontraditional Careers Disability Services Grant

Career Development Grant To implement an educational program designed to assure students know how to make career choices and create education plans to prepare themselves for those careers

Sample Activities for Career Development Grant Portable technology to do career exploration and planning within the classroom Success coach initiative – remediate deficiencies; bring parents and students in for weekly/monthly for career, academic and personal/social skill development; after school meetings for students on life skills; career field trips Expand career development from 5 th – 12 grade in a select number of additional schools

Nontraditional Grant To provide organizations/entities means to provide strategies to recruit and retain male and/or female student in nontraditional career majors Nontraditional occupations are defined as those for which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25% of the individuals employed in each occupation or field of work
