THE HOLY SPIRIT Promised by Jesus, To be Given by the Father John 14:15-18

Images of spirits May conjure up a whole cartload of baggage: –Hysterical emotionalism –Strange forms of mysticism –Religious fanatics.

AN OBEDIENCE MOTIVATED BY LOVE If you love me, you will obey what I command... (v 15)

We prefer to manage our Christian lives Having marriage difficulties? –Read a book on "managing conflict" or "Harmony in the Home". Struggling with besetting sins? –Memorize a passage of Scripture: Romans 6. Plagued by loneliness? –Read a book on "How to develop relationships" –Join a singles group.

We read about the "fruit of the Spirit" in Gal. 5:22-23 and ask ourselves, “Which of these qualities is weakest in my life?" Then we work out a plan by which to 'work on' the weak area. We may even find someone to be accountable to in the process. And when we do it this way we set ourselves up for failure. –The Fruit of the Spirit is a product of the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. –It is NOT a result of our good effort.

Holiness people are often known for what they don't do …a form of "works righteousness". Loving God must result in –purity of life and –an upright walk.

Jesus said to… "Come to me"; "Believe in me", "Follow me". Then He said, if you love me, you will obey what I command.

A DIVINE GIFT LOVINGLY GIVEN And I will ask the father, and he will give you another counselor

Jesus asked this of the Father for us With confidence. Jesus never fails to do what He said He would.

A SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him, (v 17)

One must be born of the Spirit Only Jesus can do that

His temple (our body) must be cleansed of idols, selfishness & sin.

The Holy Spirit cannot abide in or with what is unholy

A DYNAMIC RELATIONSHIP for he lives with you and will be in you. (v 17).

We receive the Spirit of God when we are Regenerated He does not have all of us at that point.

there is another dimension Spirit Fullness! We can give the Holy Spirit permission to inhabit every facet of our lives. It is a loving relationship that is wonderful.

Are you trying to live the Christian life in your own effort? Experience the promise of Jesus. Trust Him and feel the difference! Jesus is the one who makes it possible for us to have the Holy Spirit – Let’s trust Him!
