Huawei HD Program Producing Solution With the increasingly rich program content, the audience requires clearer pictures. HD programs have become an inevitable trend, and TV stations of various levels are accelerating HD program construction. The HD program producing network with the all-IP network architecture not only helps TV stations improve user experience and increase the number of binding users but also lower construction and O&M costs on the traditional FC+IP network. The HD program producing network must ensure clear and fluent video playing. In the non-linear editing (NLE) post-production process, the primary service requirement is to ensure high-quality and clear videos. If the network bandwidth is lower than the bandwidth required for program editing and producing, the video image flashes black on the workstations, leading to an error in the upload, download, and play of programs. The bit rate of HD videos reaches 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and the quality of HD videos are sensitive to the bandwidth, delay, and burst traffic. The HD program producing network faces the following challenges to ensure high-quality videos: HD program producing network A transmission period longer than 40 ms on each frame causes video frame freezing and affects production efficiency.  Phase alternating line (PAL) is used as an example. The video is played at the rate of 25 frames per second (FPS). The transmission period of each frame cannot be longer than 40 ms. Concurrent HD services at multiple layers easily lead to network congestion, resulting in frame loss.  A workstation supports six-layer services of 100 Mbps edited in a refined way. When 60 workstations simultaneously process services, the peak traffic rate reaches 36 Gbps. The all-IP HD NLE network faces the challenge of investment protection.  The IP NAS is compatible with the FC SAN.  The IP network is compatible with FC switches.

Simplicity: Meeting HD Program Producing Service Requirements and Lowering Construction and Maintenance Costs The 1.25 GB large buffer is designed at the access layer for NLE services, which prevents frame freezing of voices and images and frame loss. The buffer and delay designs are optimized for HD NLE services for 60 workstations. A large buffer can be dynamically allocated. Buffer sizes on ports are adjusted to lower the delay to shorter than 5 ms without packet loss. The zone-based service design, two-layer flattened network, and short-delay calibration ensure an end-to-end delay shorter than 40 ms for NLE services. The network is divided into multiple zones based on service features of the packaging, transcoding, preliminary editing, and refined editing workstations, which ensures different bandwidth and access zones for the workstations. Huawei adopts the two-layer flattened network and configures load balancing for network-side links and parameter calibration for storage-side file systems, ensuring that a delay on the link between the workstations and the storage system is shorter than 40 ms. The all-IP network simplifies the network architecture and lowers O&M costs by more than 50%. The short-delay and large-buffer designs both meet HD NLE service requirements and lower the network complexity and O&M costs. HD Program Producing Network: Zone-based Services, Short Delay, Large Buffer, and All-IP Network Architecture Zone-based services, short delay, and large buffer The network is divided into multiple zones based on service features of the packaging, transcoding, preliminary editing, and refined editing workstations, which ensures different bandwidth and access zones for the workstations. The S7700 supports multicast QoS of short-delay queues and provides a buffer of 1.25 GB, ensuring high-quality services such as post production. Network simplifying and existing device leveraging The all-IP non-blocking network carries all the HD program producing services, simplifies the dual-network architecture, and provides unified network management, simplifying network complexity. Unified storage of the FC SAN and IP NAS is supported. The FC SAN storage system, shared file system, and FC switches on the live network can be leveraged.
