Agenda Participatory Web : Demands dynamic collaboration platform Career Development & Skill building : How can Social Software help? developerWorks gets more 'dynamic' 'social' My developerWorks : Adding a Social dimension to dW Q & A

25% of India's population with the highest IQ's is GREATER than the total population of the United States The top 10 in-demand jobs in did not exist in 2004 We need to prepare students, workforce for jobs that don't yet exist......using technologies that haven't been invented. With 200 million registered users on MySpace, it would be the 5th largest country in the world. Some Interesting Statistics : Points to ponder

We are living in…………Exponential times !!! There are 40 Billion searches on Google every month (with less than 1 Billion searches before 2005)....Who was addressing these questions before Google ? The first commercial test message was sent in December Today, the number of text messages sent and received every day exceeds the total population of the PLANET Years it took to reach a market audience of 50 million Television: 13 Years Internet: 4 Years iPod: 3 Years Facebook : 2 Years There are about 5,40,000 words in English Language, nearly 5X as many as during Shakespeare's time. It is estimated that 4 exabytes (4.0 X 10/\19) of unique information will be generated this year alone !!!..... That is more than the previous 5000 years. The amount of new technical information is doubling every 2 years....This means that for a Engineering student starting a 4 year degree program, half of what he learnt in his first year of study will be outdated by the third year.

We are living in…………Exponential times !!!

In a study, more than 700 CEOs worldwide, CEO’s told that in order to stay competitive they need to Find new areas of growth, New products and services, and engineer new in-house processes and business models When asked where these ideas & innovation come from, CEO identified Employees Partners and Clients as the top three groups. The ability to collaborate is a key competitive factor that separates key performers from the under performers. Companies are looking for ways to empower these key performers by providing them tools to collaborate. Innovative ideas can germinate thought collaborative relationships with customer and business partners as well. Collaborative technologies could bring skills and scale together at an unprecedented levels. So what does this all mean ?

Ah ! I had sent my colleague an which had an imp url....that was a while back, let me now to share it with you folks... Can I ask dw for recommendations ? Know people better, get insights into their though process & opinions Try and research on how can TCP/IP be made faster ? Are there folks on dW already working on it ? Get most relevant content from dW without having to face information overload Why get 'dynamic' + 'social'

Participatory Web : Demands dynamic collaboration platform More interactions with unknown people Capture collective intelligence Open, Connected data How can users leave traces of their interaction with dW? Every day, developers locate content relevant to their work. Finding this information takes time, expertise, and creative thought which costs an organization This is lost every time community fails to capture them. What you found today I’ve got to find tomorrow … and if you’re domain expert, I may not even find the good stuff you found Should we let the knowledge of the crowd sink back into the web and start again tomorrow? Developers might want to tag, comment, rate, share, recommend..

Social Software Profiles Quickly find the people you need by searching across your organization and connecting to others. Bookmarks Save, organize and share bookmarks; discover bookmarks that have been qualified by others with similar interests & expertise Groups Create, find, join, and work with communities of people who share a common interest, responsibility, or area of expertise Activities Organize your work, plan next steps, and easily tap your expanding professional network to help execute your everyday deliverables, faster Blogs Use a weblog to present your idea and get feedback from others; learn from the expertise and experience of others who blog Homepage Manage your attention by viewing relevant social data aggregated across your subscriptions, notifications, and network of colleagues. Files Upload and share any type of file with colleagues and communities. Store versions and view downloads, comments and ratings. Wikis Create wiki spaces for individuals, groups, and communities to coauthor pages. View changes across pages, ratings, and comments.

Career Development & Skill building : How can Social Software help? Web 2.0 evolution..it’s not just about finding and reading anymore. It’s about interacting and Participating Help meet & network "like-minded" people Know different approach to solve existing problems Sharing interesting sites & bookmarks Reach out to info / people more efficiently..save time..improve productivity Be known: Surface your capabilities, skills, thoughts in a community We connect more often across the Web than across the table…
