How to Avoid Plagiarism

2 Types of Citation Within the document: At the end of the document: Use parenthetical citation to cite your source. Use just the last name of the author, or title of article. This matches up to the citation at the end of the document and looks like this: “Edison was born in the village of Milan, Ohio, on Feb. 11, 1847; his family later moved to Port Huron, Mich” (Ryder). Works Cited page: An alphabetical list of all sources used. This is a complete bibliography and looks like this: Ryder, J. D. "Edison, Thomas Alva." Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia. Grolier Online, Web. 23 Nov

What Needs to be Cited? Every fact that is not common knowledge that you get from a source should be cited: Cite it if it is a direct quote. Cite it if you re-state in your own words.

How to Organize The best way to organize citations is to put them into your presentation as you go. Otherwise, you have to go back and find them later. Each time you put a fact in your document create the citation in Noodletools and copy it into your slide show. (Also, check the document—many articles have the MLA citation listed at the end of the document.) Once you have put the citation in your document, create the parenthetical citation after the fact. Then move the complete citation to your Works Cited Page at the end of the document.

Using Noodletools If you don’t remember how to get to Noodletools: Log onto noodletools.com Sign in with the username and password you created. (You are already a registered user.) At the My Projects page, open the works cited list you saved. Under Components, click Works Cited Select a citation type and click “Create Citation”
