After WWII, there was a desire to reestablish a homeland for the Jewish people. Due to their ancient claim over the land the British, who controlled the territory, turned it over to be established as a Jewish state. (Country) Many Jew immigrated there.

The Palestinians were already living there, but did have any control over their government. They did not have their own country. They had also once been promised control of the land after the British left.

What is Nationalism? Nationalism means the feeling of pride in and devotion to one's country or the desire of a people to control their own government, free from foreign interference or rule. The Israeli-Palestrina Conflict is a clash between Jewish Nationalism and Arab Nationalism. They both want to control Israel. Neither side is interested in sharing the territory.

After the establishment of Israel, immediate violent conflict occurred. A war broke out between the Israeli’s and the Palestinians who were supported by Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq. The Arab Palestinians lost that war and many left the country as refugees to near-by countries, hoping to return someday. However, the country was divided. The Palestinians live and control two portions—the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

Israel is a holy land for the Abrahamic Religions Finally, the land is considered holy by both the Jews and the Muslims—especially the city of Jerusalem.
