Safety Moment ‘No Holiday for Safety’ Working at Height 5/11/2013

Working @ Height – Safety moment Lets use our neighbours in Abu Dhabi as a guide to the importance of Working @ Height safety Arrangements? 50% of surgical submissions to the main hospitals in the Emirate state (2003 to 2005, 614 occupational injuries, ) related to falls and falling objects, 50%, 307 injuries, related to falls Injured were Male Migrant workers aged between 22 and 44 Does this look and sound familiar? Obviously we don’t have figures for Oman! What can we do to reduce our RISK? Get the basics right! Cause of FATAL occupational Injuries

Typical Sub Contract - BEC No sub contractor controls for work outside of the mainstream PDO work BEC is the main contractor for this type of call off work BEC continue to undermine the basic working at height requirements Cause of FATAL occupational Injuries

Example of their sub contractor BEC Example of their sub contractor PDO Pension Houses MSQ Work Was Stopped!

BEC Sub Contractor arrives – no scaffold boards, no LSR measures Person already at >2m before work stopped Improper Equipment
