Summary Gabby is a straight-A student. She is not fat, but felt she could stand to lose a few pounds. Within a couple of weeks she had lost weight. It seemed like everyone noticed. “Gabby, you look great.” She doesn’t think anything ever felt as good as those comments. She lost weight at a fast rate, and every time she lost a pound she was elated. Now in looking back, she realizes she became addicted to. She could go three days without eating. No one said nice things to her and no one was complimenting her. She needed help, and yet there was no way she could ask for it. Someday, she understood that this was her problem. She needed to take control of her life-not let the disease control it. Slowly, with the help of friends and family, she began to heal. Now that she is at her ideal weight, she has stopped weighing herself altogether. She no longer peruses fashion magazines, either-She may not be “in style,” but she feels just right!

Grammer As I lay in bed that night crying and feeling fat, I knew I needed help.(p.234, 4 paragraphs, 1 line) need: forms A need can be both an auxiliary and an ordinary verb. As an auxiliary it is a semi-modal, it has both modal and 'ordinary verb' forms. As a modal, its forms are need or need not/needn't for all persons in the present and future and in indirect speech. B need as an auxiliary is seldom used in the affirmative except when a negative or interrogative sentence is preceded by an expression which changes the negative or interrogative verb into an affirmative. C need can also be conjugated as an ordinary verb with negative forms. need conjugated with will/shall, do/does/did etc. takes the full infinitive and is sometimes referred to as need to.

Vocaburary  elated (p.233 1paragraph 4line) If you are elated, you are extremely happy and excited because of something that has happened.  addicted (p.233 1paragraph 5line) Someone who is addicted to a harmful drug cannot stop taking it. Many of the women are addicted to heroin and cocaine.  compliment (p.233 4paragraph 3line)  compliment (p.233 4paragraph 3line) A compliment is a polite remark that you say to someone to show that you like their appearance, appreciate their qualities, or approve of what they have done.  belittle (p.233 5paragraph 4line) If you belittle someone or something, you say or imply that they are unimportant or not very good.  desperate (p.233 6paragraph 5line) If you are desperate, you are in such a bad situation that you are willing to try anything to change it.

Connection Information Even after Brazilian modeling agencies signed a policy which restricts anorexic models from entering the profession, yet another woman has lost her life to the disease. Maiara Galvao Vieira, a 14 year-old aspiring model is the fifth Brazilian woman to die of complications related to anorexia in 3 months: Galvao Vieira, who was 1.70 meters tall [about 5' 7"] and weighed about 38 kilograms [about 84 lbs.] was in the Miguel Couto hospital for over a month, after having been in three other public hospitals and no one being able to diagnose the disease. The victim's parents say that she was so weak that she was unable to climb the stairs to her school.

Connection Information

My Opinion Most of the Korean women desire to be thinner than they already are. So they try losing weight even though they look normal or skinny. It's great when people gain confidence from succeeding their diet, but because of the wrong ways in diet, people end up being bulimic or anorexic. Also, People can very easily come across thin models in magazines. And so they feel that such figures are desirable. There are also many people who lose weight to resemble these models. anorexic an emotional disease. That is why being strong-willed is the most important.
