Flipped By Sophia

What kind of assistance does Sophia offer for students? The website offers more than 37,000 tutorials for a range of academic topics taught by more than 6,000 teachers A quick quiz helps assess what kind of learner the student may be – visual, verbal, interpersonal, auditory or applied Each tutorial is taught by multiple teachers using various instructional styles (slideshows, video, text, etc.), which allows the students to individualize their own method of learning; in other words, students find the instruction that works best for them Students can earn badges (Seed of Knowledge, anyone?) and points from interactive quizzes, creating incentives and making learning fun

What kind of assistance does Sophia offer for teachers? Using the lesson building tools, teachers can make their own tutorials or choose from the 37,000 already offered Teachers can create their own quizzes to use as formative assessments using the Sophia quiz builder Arrange tutorials for your students in a playlist so they are easily accessible Create private groups for your students so they can interact together, access lesson plans and ask questions Use Sophia Pathways to challenge gifted students and help those who are struggling; quizzes help monitor their progress as each pathway is completed

What makes a “flipped classroom?” Gone are the days of lectures in class and homework at home – a flipped classroom has students watching the Sophia tutorials as homework which then enables interactive learning in the classroom More face time with the teacher and active learning in class Teachers are able to teach to each individual student by offering different tutorials for the same lesson Hands-on, in-class learning with the help of technology offers a refreshing twist on the standard lesson plan
