Student-Athlete Academic Eligibility Proud members of the Canadian College Athletic Association

Who is the BCCAA? The British Columbia Colleges Athletics Association (BCCAA) is the governing body for college/institute athletics in B.C.

Who is the CCAA? The CCAA is the largest intercollegiate sport organization in Canada with 106 member institutions representing 5 regional athletic conferences Consists of five athletic conferences:

CCAA Participation In , 6,200 student-athletes represented their institution on one of 415 intercollegiate teams in the CCAA

BCCAA Participation In , 1090 student-athletes represented 14 member institutions on one of 78 intercollegiate teams

CCAA Sports Douglas Sports Badminton Basketball Cross-Country Running Golf Soccer Volleyball Baseball Rugby Softball (new 2009/2010) Wheelchair Basketball Wrestling

Academic Requirements Be considered a full-time student for each semester of athletic participation Enroll in a minimum of 9 credits per academic semester (usually 3 classes)

Academic Load: What can you take to be eligible? Undergraduate Courses College Preparatory Courses Upgrading Courses (Academic Career Prep) English as a Second Language (ESL) Trades* Co-Op* *Must request Special Dispensation to confirm eligibility

What does an Eligibility form look like? Signed by Registrar

Monitoring academic eligibility In-season, Athletic Directors are required to confirm the student-athlete eligibility every Friday prior to the weekend competition In November and February, Athletic Directors are required to submit eligibility forms to the BCCAA and CCAA to confirm student-athlete academic progress/standing

Academic Requirements to continue participating Take 9 credits per semester Sport played over 2 semesters = pass 18 credits over same period Sport played over 1 semester = pass 9 credits in active semester NWAAC rules – 2.0 GPA
