WELCOME TO A&P UNIT 7

 CNS = Central Nervous System  PNS = Peripheral Nervous System  Question: What is autonomic nervous system ( ANS)?

 Regulates involuntary functions of the body  Consists of the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic system  Ganglia = special structures which connect preganglionic and postganglionic neurons  Question: What is the main function of sympathetic nervous system?

 A place where impulse is transmitted between two neurons  Question: What are neurotransmitters?

PNS (PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM) CONSISTS OF CRANIAL AND SPINAL NERVES

 Neuritis = nerve inflammation  Neuralgia = nerve pain  Bell’s palsy = face asymmetry, when 7 th cranial nerve is damaged ( facial nerve )  Herpes zoster = shingles  Question: What causes shingles?

Twelve pairs of nerves  Connect brain with the structures in thorax and abdomen Question: What are spinal nerves?

 Task: Color code these lobes: Temporal lobe Frontal lobe Parietal Occipital

1. BRAINSTEM * Medulla oblongata * Pons * Midbrain 2. CEREBELLUM 3. DIENCEPHALON * Hypothalamus * Thalamus 4. CEREBRUM
