Welcome Revised

Evacuation/Seek Shelter Team (ESS)  To review procedures at least twice a year with our group.  To work in conjunction with Security to assist any employee who has a need for special assistance in the event of an emergency.  To work in conjunction with Security and Building Services in conducting an annual evacuation and seek shelter drill. Our Role: Continued…

Evacuation/Seek Shelter Team (ESS)  Communicate with security via radio in an actual evacuation/seek shelter situation.  Be familiar with evacuation routes and shelter areas.  Direct employees to designated assembly areas via established routes.  In their respective areas, ESS Team members will check all areas to ensure everyone is on their way to their designated area. Our Role continued:

Your Role  Communicate any need you may have for special assistance to the ESS Team Captain in your area.  Be familiar with location of stairwells, exits and shelter areas.  Keep someone informed of your whereabouts at all times.  If out of your work area, proceed to your designated evacuation/shelter area for head count.  If you are unable to reach designated area, have another ESS team member radio your whereabouts so you can be accounted for.

Two Scenarios  Evacuation  Seek Shelter

Evacuation Two types:  Full: everyone must leave the building.  Security will activate signal over emergency PA system.  Partial: employees will be directed to an unaffected area of the building.  ESS Captains will be notified and will communicate to affected employees.

Evacuation Signal:  Repeated pattern of three (3) tones and a pause followed by a verbal message.

Evacuation Procedure 1.Listen for and discern signal 2.Stay calm. Walk, do not run. 3.Use stairwells only. Escalators can be used once they are turned off. 4.Follow the route established for your floor/location to the 1 st floor. 5.Proceed to designated outside assembly area A or B 6.Check in for head count with your ESS Team members. 7.Remain in the assembly area until directed otherwise.

Seek Shelter  The seek shelter signal will be given when we are in danger from severe weather conditions or other situations that present themselves.  Weather Data Services will give us advance notification of severe weather headed in our immediate direction.

Seek Shelter Signal:  Lo-Hi wailing tone followed by a verbal message.

Seek Shelter Procedure 1.Listen for and discern signal 2.Stay calm. Walk, do not run. 3.Stay away from windows and glass. 4.Use stairwells only. Escalators can be used once they are turned off. Continued…

Seek Shelter Procedure 6.Follow the route established for your floor/location to the designated assembly area in the parking garage. North wall between entry and exit doors Signage on the wall will identify a specific gathering area for each floor/location. Go there. 7.Check in for head count with your ESS Team members. 8.Remain in shelter area until directed otherwise.

All Clear Signal Signal:  Continuous tone followed by a verbal message.

Meeting Host/Trainers Training Tower and Auditorium  You are responsible for ensuring your guests know what to do in an evacuation or seek shelter situation.  In each room there is a yellow folder with specific directions. Review them. Directions If not applicable, click here to skip

Meeting Host/Trainers Your Responsibilities:  Review visitor safety protocol, evacuation and seek shelter routes and procedures.  Determine if there are any special needs for assistance.  Lead guests to designated shelter or assembly area.  Shelter area is north wall in parking garage  Training tower: outside assembly area is “B”  Auditorium: outside assembly area is “A” Continued…

Meeting Host/Trainers Your Responsibilities:  Head Count  Groups 15 or less: Security will check-off guests as they arrive.  Larger groups: Host/Trainer must check off guests as they arrive and provide this list to lobby security officer.  Notify security of any guests needing special assistance in an emergency.  Once your guests are accounted for, report to your ESS Team members.

External Meeting Hosts/Trainers  If you are responsible for bringing in an external meeting host or trainer, you must:  Review the established evacuation and seek shelter procedures with the group yourself or review the procedures with the host/trainer so that they can review it with the group.  Review their role in an evacuation or seek shelter situation.  Walk the host/trainer through the evacuation and seek shelter route for that specific floor/area.
