Improve the performances of Ministry of irrigation and Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Cooperation Project: “Rationalization of Ras El Ain irrigation systems” Damascus, 18 February 2008

Main Outputs GIS and remote sensing  27 technicians updated in IAMB, Syria and Egypt  One GIS unit functioned in IM  One Digital geo referenced map of Al Hassakeh Governorate  Thematic maps – GIS  Complete data base for water, wells, soils, agronomical and irrigation parameters. ….. And now the irrigation Ministry is able to produce and to use Digital, Thematic and GIS maps by himself !

Soil and water analysis Main Outputs  12 technicians updated in IAMB and Syria  Updating of two laboratories: one in Irrigation Ministry and another one in Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Al Hassakeh  Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform soil laboratory in Al Hassakeh  One training course on Chromatography  Tow Analysis Standards guidelines one for water analysis and another one for Soil analysis ….. And now the technicians of the two Ministries are able to make analysis according with the international Standards !

Irrigation techniques Main Outputs  18 technicians updated on irrigation technologies in IAMB  Two trainings on the use of meteorological stations and related software  Several software for irrigation plans  One new meteo station and updating of another one  Project’s personnel able to use the meteo station and related data  7 training courses for technicians and farmers in situ ….. And now the farmers are able to apply correctly new irrigation technologies and correct irrigation !

Participatory planning Main Outputs  17 technicians updated in IAMB  One training course on participatory approach in irrigation management  Two water user associations designed and ready for creation ….. The PMU technicians are able to conduct a correct problem’s analysis of the beneficiaries and to develop interventions in participatory way !

Farm management Main Outputs  19 technicians updated in IAMB  Economical evaluation of the demo fields  One additional training course in Syria for analysis of Agriculture investments jointly with the National Irrigation Project  Software for economical analysis of the farm ….. And now the local technicians are able to evaluate the economical convenience of the any investments !

Information & communication Main Outputs  13 technicians updated in Syria  One Web site designed and functioned.  One Library with 100 technical books.  One functioned server used by local administrations with all project data ….. And now the local technicians are able to collect, to elaborate and to spread information to everybody !

Management of development projects Main Outputs  Two training courses on Participatory Rural Appraisal  12 technicians updated Syria  4 sessions of PRA with farmers, The PMU,s personnel fully able to conduct a session of PRA ….. And now the local technicians are able to analyze and to elaborate the needs of the local people !

118 technicans updated 450 technicians, Farmers, Mechanics, Workers, Irrigators and Drivers updated ….. Means technical sustainability of the project !
