MR. BAKER’S CLASSROOM GEOMETRY 2015 Rio Americano High School

Course Information  Geometry  Students will learn geometric concepts, many in the form of definitions, properties, postulates, and theorems.  Students will use these concepts to analyze situations, form logical conclusions, and solve problems.  Students will develop deductive reasoning skills.  Students will learn to communicate more clearly, precisely, and convincingly.  (Proofs) Students will prove geometric statements are true by constructing logically sound, convincing arguments using their deductive reasoning and communication skills together with the concepts/facts learned in this course.

Homework / Study Time  Expect homework daily (10% of grade)  Usually won’t take more than 30 minutes  Study Time in addition to daily practice  Once or twice a week and before tests/quizzes  Study definitions, properties, postulates, and theorems. (Flashcards are great!)  Use HotMath.com for full solutions to odd problems in our textbook (Login: RAHS4540)  Use textbook’s website, ClassZone.com, to do practice quizzes, chapter tests, and access  Access video lessons at

Tests/quizzes  Quizzes (Formative Assessments)  At least once a chapter  10% of grade  If time permits, retakes will be given for Quizzes. Students can earn up to 100% on quiz retakes.  Tests (Summative Assessments)  At the end of each chapter and final at end of semester  80% of grade  A retake exam will be given for each chapter test. Retake policy for tests applies.

Test Retake Policy  Retake Privilege  Must have an 80% average in HW to qualify for taking a retake  Can earn up to 10% higher with a cap at 89%  Those who score below 59% on a test can earn up to 69% on the retake  Retake privilege can be revoked at any time for chronic lack of participation and effort in class  Please see the Geometry Resources page of my website for more information or a copy of the policy

Absences and Late Work  Non-Test Days  Daily assignments, PowerPoints, worksheets, and worksheet answers are posted on my website  Students may have as many days as they were absent to complete and turn in their absent work  Whether absent or not, I always accept late work for half credit.

Tutoring/Help Outside Classroom  I am often time in my room at lunch or after school and happy to help students.  After school tutoring available  Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in the Library from 3:00 – 4:00 pm.  A list of paid student tutors can be found in the counseling office
