Yr 7 Map Skills Battleships

Aims of today's lesson To be able to know how to read coordinates on the game Battleships To be able to use these skills for 4 figure grid references

4 Figure Grid Referencing… How can we find areas on maps…we need to have a reference for it We use grid references in geography…  they have 4 numbers or 4 figures… That’s why they are called 4 Figure Grid References

Battleships By playing the game battleships you will be able to learn how to give a 4 figure grid reference Remember across first then up second …  “Across the landing up the stairs”

4-figure grid references

Example To give a grid reference you need to find the symbol, make an ‘L’ shape and then read numbers. Across first, then up second

Example So the coordinate for this is …

Battleships game The aim is to hide your ships so that they don’t get hit and sunk…whilst attacking your opponents fleet of ships You need to firstly hide your ships Then on your radar attack your opponents ships…this is done by giving coordinates Good luck
