Avant Garde

Sequence of Activities Bring in outside materials for arrangement (due January 25) Create arrangement (see instructions next slide) Photograph arrangement – consider angle, lighting, background Create acrylic painting based on arrangement (see designs by Lindsey Taylor). Realistic or abstract – let your arrangement inspire your decision.Lindsey Taylor

Thoughts for your painting… Realism? Abstraction? Mix of realism and abstraction? Acrylic (required) Stretched canvas? Raw canvas? Organic shape?

Creating Your Arrangement After cutting the stem, submerge in water immediately. Do not rip the stems as this causes trauma to the plan and will die more quickly. Strip the leaves off of any area that will be submerged in water – leaving them will cause decay. Consider height of each stem – think before you trim. Negative space Color placement Juxtaposing textures Think beyond the edges of the vase Ultimately, you are creating a living work of art. Please treat it as such.
